Privacy & Cookies

Overview

This wiki is a fan site run by Zero Command . There are no accounts, no logins, no comment system, and no newsletter, so there is nothing here to sign up for and no profile to build. What follows is a plain description of the small amount of data that does pass through the site.

Questions about anything on this page go to wiki@zerocommand.gg.

What the wiki collects itself

WhatWhyCookies
Page view counts (Vercel Analytics)To see which articles are worth expandingNone. Visitors are counted without cookies or cross-site identifiers.
Page view counts, and how readers arrive and move around the site (Google Analytics 4)To see which pages answer what people came for, and which searches bring them hereYes. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (_ga and similar) to recognise a returning browser. See Your choices about cookies below.
Server request logs (Vercel)Hosting, security, and diagnosing errorsNone. Kept briefly and not used to identify readers.
Page performance timings (Vercel Speed Insights)To see whether pages load quickly on real devices, especially with ads on the pageNone. Timings are measured without cookies or cross-site identifiers.
Search terms typed into the wiki’s search boxTo find out what readers look for and the wiki does not yet coverNone. The search itself runs in your browser. The words you typed and how many results they returned are recorded, with nothing attached that identifies you.
Trophy checklist ticksSo the list remembers your progress between visitsNone. Stored in your browser’s local storage, on your device only.
Clicks on the link to the Zero Company wikiTo see whether the footer link is used, rather than guessingNone. What is recorded is that the link was clicked. Nothing is attached that identifies you.
Two dates: first and most recent visitTo count how many readers come back, as a number rather than a personNone. Stored in your browser’s local storage; only “new” or “returning” and the days between is reported.

Search terms are the only free-text item on that list. They are lower-cased, cut to 64 characters, and sent without anything that identifies who typed them, so what is recorded is that somebody searched for a phrase and whether the wiki had an answer. The search results themselves are still worked out on your device.

Google Analytics is the one item on that list that uses cookies, and the only one that shares data with a provider outside the hosting of this site. It is measurement rather than advertising: it is not used to build a profile, and readers are not identified by name. Where consent is required, it is asked for first; the section below explains how.

The two local-storage entries above stay on the device that made them. They hold no name, no identifier, and nothing that could single you out, and clearing your browser’s site data removes them. No account data is collected because there are no accounts. Nothing on this list is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone beyond the hosting and analytics providers named above.

Advertising

The wiki carries advertising from Google AdSense so it can stay free to read. Ads are placed by hand in fixed positions on article pages: at most one inside an article and one at the end of it. Auto Ads are switched off, which means Google does not insert anchor bars, full-screen interstitials, or pop-ups of its own.

Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers to choose which ads you see and to measure whether they worked. Google’s own description of this is in the Google Privacy & Terms  page covering how it uses data from sites that use its services.

You can control this:

  • Change what ads you see: Google Ad Settings .
  • Opt out of personalised advertising from participating vendors: Your Online Choices  (Europe) or optout.aboutads.info  (US).
  • Block everything: an ad or tracker blocker works normally here. Nothing on the wiki is gated behind seeing an ad, and no page asks you to switch a blocker off.

Your choices about cookies

Two things on this site can set cookies: Google Analytics, for measurement, and Google AdSense, for advertising. Both are handled by the same consent message.

If you are reading from the UK, the EEA, or Switzerland, that message appears before either analytics or personalised advertising cookies are set. Until you answer, both are held back: analytics runs without cookies and reports only anonymous, aggregated totals, and advertising is limited to non-personalised ads. Your answer is remembered, and you can reopen the message to change it at any time using the privacy or consent link the message provides.

Elsewhere, analytics and advertising cookies are set on arrival, as they are on most sites. You can still remove or block them:

  • Block or delete cookies for this site in your browser’s settings. Nothing here breaks without them.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics entirely, on every site, with Google’s browser opt-out add-on .
  • An ad or tracker blocker works normally here, and no page asks you to switch one off.

Emails and screenshots

Corrections sent to wiki@zerocommand.gg are read by one person and kept only for as long as it takes to check the detail and make the edit.

Screenshots are treated as proof, not storage. They are checked against the page, used to make the change, and then deleted. Nothing a reader sends is committed to the site or its repository, and no reader image is published without asking by email first. Contributors are credited the way they asked, or not at all if they asked for no credit. This is set out in full on the Send an Update page.

Children

The wiki is a reference site for a video game and is not directed at children under 13, and no information is knowingly collected from them.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EEA, or Switzerland you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used.

In practice there are two things to ask about. The first is an email you sent to the address below, which is the only place this site holds anything with your name on it. The second is the pseudonymous identifier Google Analytics assigns to a browser once analytics cookies are allowed; it is not linked to a name here, but it still counts as personal data, and withdrawing consent or clearing the cookie ends it. Write to wiki@zerocommand.gg and anything else will be dealt with.

Changes

This page changes when the site does. The date it was last edited is shown at the bottom of the page and comes from the site’s commit history, so it is not something that can quietly drift out of date.
