Racers

Overview

Seven characters have been named. The playable roster has not been announced, and being named is not the same as being playable: Darius Pax runs the League rather than racing in it.

Shade

The racer the campaign follows, described by Lucasfilm as “a mysterious racer with a grudge against the Bool family” and by Secret Mode as “a lone racer chasing revenge and glory”. Shade enters the Galactic League to work up towards a shot at becoming an elite racing pilot. [1][2][3]

Matt Webster of Fuse Games has described the campaign structure in those terms: “Your aim is to survive long enough to earn your shot at becoming an elite racing pilot.” [1]

An official character profile confirms Shade’s species as Human, and fills in the backstory: a “dauntless cargo pilot” who once dreamt of the race track, but growing up on Gathleon under the “oppressive Bool conglomerate” left the dream “a fantasy”. Before the Galactic League, Shade spent years “transporting cargo of varying legality across the galaxy” with Hibi, until Darius Pax’s league offered “a new start”. [12]

Kestar Bool

The rival, and the reigning League Champion. Lucasfilm describes him as “underhanded and well-connected”; Fuse Games describes him as “as talented as he is villainous”, using his position as champion to threaten other pilots and extend his reach. The Bool clan dominates the Galactic League, and the grudge that drives Shade’s campaign is with that family. [2][7]

Design Director Mark Bridges performed the motion capture for Kestar Bool. [8]

A banner featuring Kestar Bool is included in the Collector’s Edition. [4]

An official character profile lists Kestar Bool’s species as Caskadag, and adds that he is “the proud, underhanded son of the tyrannical Bool family,” determined to keep his title as champion and earn respect “from the public as well as his iron-willed father.” [13]

His voice comes from actor Kris Laudrum, an English voice and performance capture actor. Fuse Games’ Music & Narrative Director Nathaniel Daw said the brief called for Kestar Bool to be established as an entitled Caskadag “from the first ‘Impeding!’”, with Laudrum’s performance revealing, beneath the arrogance, “someone who is terrified that they’ll not live up to their father’s expectation”. [19]

Darius Pax

The founder of the Galactic League, described by Lucasfilm as “the boisterous voice” of the circuit. With Kestar Bool now dominating the League he founded, Pax recruits Shade in a bid to retain control of it. [2][7]

An official character profile lists Pax’s species as Besalisk, and adds that he was “once a mechanic for the Hutts” before founding the League, describing his goal as “a new golden age of galaxy-wide racing sanctioned and supported by the New Republic.” [14]

His voice comes from actor Andrew James Spooner. Fuse Games’ Music & Narrative Director Nathaniel Daw described the brief as needing “a big voice for a big Besalisk”, delivering Pax’s mix of “gravitas and charisma” with “the exuberant overconfidence that makes Darius Pax who he is.” [17]

Hibi

An Ardennian engineer, and Shade’s mechanic. Hibi appears in the Paddock, and each planet’s paddock has her and her workshop in it. Parts are fitted there, either earned or bought from Hibi, giving stat boosts and abilities. Fuse Games describes her as occasionally adding “an experimental part or two to keep things interesting”. [7][9]

She fronts Under the Hood with Hibi, an official video series on the vehicle classes. Episode 1 covers landspeeders, Episode 2 covers speeder bikes, and Episode 3 covers skim speeders. A fourth episode has been announced. [9][10][11]

An official character profile describes her as “a whirlwind of oil, sparks, and unstoppable ambition” with “an instinctive genius for engineering” and “a sometimes-worrying enthusiasm for things that explode,” eager to prove herself “building the best racing vehicles in the galaxy.” [15]

Her voice comes from actor Lucy Montgomery. Fuse Games’ Music & Narrative Director Nathaniel Daw said Montgomery herself suggested a voice based on the Liverpool, or Scouse, accent, matching the “friendly, welcoming personality” the role needed while capturing Hibi’s “enthusiasm and passion for repulsorcraft.” [18]

Sebulba

The Dug podracer pilot established in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, where he races against Anakin Skywalker at the Boonta Eve Classic. Sebulba’s podracer appears in Galactic Racer. [1]

Matt Webster on the inclusion: “There’s so much love for Sebulba on the team and across the Star Wars community.” [1]

Fuse Games describes Shade as being helped by “the energetic engineer Hibi and a certain legendary podracer”, so the podracer of the campaign is an ally rather than an obstacle. [7]

An official character profile adds that, years after the Boonta Eve Classic, Sebulba has “carved out his well-deserved place in racing history,” but is “not so eager to allow the young up-and-comer racers replace him,” finding a role in the Galactic League rather than let his “legendary name be forgotten.” [16]

Ben Quadinaros

The Toong podracer pilot, also established in The Phantom Menace as a competitor in the Boonta Eve Classic. [2]

Griff Halloran

A racer established in Star Wars Resistance, confirmed by Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster as appearing. Webster has described the roster as letting the game tell stories across different Star Wars eras. [5]

Webster has also said the game does not include a young Anakin Skywalker: Sebulba appears as an older character rather than in a restaging of the Boonta Eve Classic. [5]
